2020 Teddy Hall Relays

As no races are taking place at the moment, I'm creating some web pages entitled "where I was taking photos this time last year". Today, I'm looking at the Teddy Hall Relays which takes place in Oxford.

The organiser's website says "starting and finishing on the iconic Iffley track, the Neptune Teddy Hall Relays are some of the oldest and largest student relays nationwide, featuring a scenic 4 x 4.35 mile route through the centre of Oxford - student teams from around the country compete for the top prize while Oxford departments compete for faculty pride - runners of all abilities most welcome". There are three races each for teams of 4 runners: a Male race, a Mixed race and a Female race. Last year's event took place on Wed Mar 11th 2020. I guess this year's event would have taken place today (Wed Mar 10th 2021) in which case it would have been cancelled because of Covid-19.

IMPORTANT: I'm using the information I found in the results. So some of the names of runners given below are wrong probably because runners swopped legs. If you find I've got the wrong name for a photo, e-mail me the details of a name swop and I'll alter the caption for the photo.

The route of the races

The above map is taken from the organiser's website. That web page says "the route begins on the Iffley Track, then heads towards Donnington Bridge, crosses it and continues alongside the river on the towpath - it then proceeds a short way down Abingdon Road (turning into St. Aldate’s) to the entrance of Christ Church Meadow. - the course takes runners through the Meadow out to Rose Lane and the High Street, before finishing on the track". I took the photos in Christ Church Meadow at about the 5K point of the 7K course.

Will's time of 00:21:44 was the fastest in the Male race. His teammate (Mike Kallenberg - 16B) was just 3 seconds slower.

James Lyne (104B) finished in 00:22:35 --- "University of Reading A" were the 2nd External team in the Male race finishing in 01:33:40.

Matthew Lock (19D) finished in 00:24:16 --- "Witney Road Runners" were the 15th External team in the Male race finishing in 01:51:53.

Tom Willner-Reid (95B) finished in 00:27:47 --- "Headington Road Runners Men - A" were the 16th External team in the Male race finishing in 01:53:47.

David Watkinson (98D) finished in 00:27:58 --- "Woodstock Harriers" were the 17th External team in the Male race finishing in 01:54:15.

Ian Satterthwaite (101A) finished in 00:26:56 --- "Centurion Men" were the 18th External team in the Male race finishing in 01:58:09.

Pete Kyberd (1C) finished in 00:28:43 --- "KRAC Vets" were the 28th External team in the Male race finishing in 02:14:37.
