As no races are taking place at the moment, I'm creating some web pages entitled "where I was taking photos this time last year". Today, I'm looking at the Bourton 10K which takes place from Bourton-on-the-Water, a village in Gloucestershire. It's about 32M from Oxford. It's "on-the-Water" because the River Windrush flows through the centre of the village.
The organiser's website says "the course starts with 2 laps of the village - the route then follows an out-and-back course - this goes along the Rissington Road, turning right into Leasow Lane towards Great Rissington, with a turn-point near New Bridge Lane - upon return into Bourton village, there is a three-quarter loop of the village with a finish that is close to the start - flat and fast". There is a lot of encouragement from locals and supporters on the streets of the village and a lot of runner camaraderie during the middle of the course along the out-and-back section. Last year's race took place on Sun Feb 23rd 2020 and this year's race was to have taken place today (Sun Feb 28th 2021). Unfortunately, because of Covid-19 it has had to be cancelled.
The above maps are taken from the organiser's website.
The map at the bottom left shows the two laps of the village at the start and the bottom right map shows that the race finishes with three-quarters of the
village loop. During these laps the River Windrush is crossed 6 times. The top map has the village inside the circle
and when the race leaves the village
it uses an
out and back route
that first goes SouthEast
along Rissington Road before turning South to go to the course turn point which is on the road to Great Rissington.

If you did the Bourton 10K in 2020 and want a reminder, then here's a link to all the photos that I took. There's a calculator on that web page that makes it easy to find the photos of a runner given their time and you can find the time from the results web page.
If you want to see the reviews I've done on other races, then here's a link to a web page that includes an index of the reviews of races.
I'm planning for my next review to be Round 5 of the 2019-20 Oxfordshire XC League that took place at Henley on Thames on Sun Mar 1st 2020. I hope to post that on Sun Mar 7th 2021.
I maintain a web page for runners that provides a list of races near Oxfordshire and the latest results. So go and visit www.oxonraces.com to see what races may take place. And if you use twitter, you may want to follow @oxonraces to become aware of important changes to this web page.
This web page is at www.oxonraces.com/blog/2021-02-28-bourton-on-the-water. It was created on Wed Feb 10th 2021 and last updated on Fri Feb 26th 2021.
