As no races are taking place at the moment, I'm creating some web pages entitled "where I was taking photos this time last year". Today, I'm looking at the Slaughterford 9 which takes place from Rudloe, a village that is 2M W of Corsham in Wiltshire. It's about 58M from Oxford.
The organiser's website says "the Slaughterford 9 is a 9M multi-terrain race over steeply undulating countryside, carrying a sting in its tail - whilst tackling 900 feet of ascent/descent in the Slaughterford valley, runners will encounter tarmac, stony paths, fields, tracks and green lanes - the course is 75 percent off-road". I think this year's race would have taken place today (Sun Jan 24th 2021). Unfortunately, because of Covid-19 it has had to be cancelled.
There's no mention in that description of a river crossing followed by a muddy bank.
The above photos
taken at the 2020 Slaughterford 9
are of Lee Vanstone (Witney_Road_Runners).
I don't know who took the photos.
I've only taken photos of this race on one occasion which was in 2018.
I took photos at two spots that were at about 1M and at about 8M,
i.e., at about 1.6K and at about 12.8K.
Although the first spot was on a public right of way,
to me it was just a gully taken by a stream descending a hillside.
It was full of rocks and difficult to walk down - some runners just jumped the tricky bits.
The above description refers to a "sting in the tail"
- in the last mile of the course there's a 80m climb that takes place over 0.3K.
It's shown in the above photo which I grabbed from this Facebook page.
Although as you can see, some people took photos from the top of the climb,
I don't think it leads to great photos.
So my second spot was just before the climb.
Getting there meant walking down the climb - I fell over!
As some of the photos at my second spot demonstrate, many of the runners got muddy!
And if you take a tumble in the mud, you'll get very muddy
as the above photo of
Stephen Hible (Corsham_RC) shows.
.
The above map is taken from mapmyrun.
I don't know how accurate it is.

If you did the Slaughterford 9 in 2018 and want a reminder, then here's a link to all the photos that I took. There's a calculator on that web page that makes it easy to find the photos of a runner given their time and you can find the time from the results web page.
If you want to see the reviews I've done on other races, then here's a link to a web page that includes an index of the reviews of races.
I'm planning for my next review to be of the 2015 Not the Roman IX. I hope to post that on Sunday (Jan 31st 2021).
I maintain a web page for runners that provides a list of races near Oxfordshire and the latest results. So go and visit www.oxonraces.com to see what races may take place. And if you use twitter, you may want to follow @oxonraces to become aware of important changes to this web page.
This web page is at www.oxonraces.com/blog/2021-01-24-corsham-chippenham. It was created on Sun Jan 17th 2021 and last updated on Sun Jan 24th 2021.
