2019 Hooky Christmas Canter

As very few races are taking place at the moment, I'm creating some web pages entitled "where I was taking photos this time last year". Today, I'm looking at the Hooky Christmas Canter which takes place from Hook Norton.

The organiser says "the Christmas Canter is a chilly, hilly, mix of road, field and trail over a scenic 7M course - competitors are encouraged to wear fancy dress (entirely optional!) and are rewarded with mince pies, mulled wine (water also available!) and much festive cheer - a superb way to round off the running year". Last year's race took place on Sun Dec 15th 2019. Although it was dry (with a cold wind) during the race, it rained quite a bit before the race which ensured that many parts of the course were muddy. This year's race was to have taken place today (Dec 20th 2020). Unfortunately, because of Covid-19 it has had to be cancelled.

Heyford Aardvarks Running Club is based at Upper Heyford. "It was set up by a few local runners who moved to the village and were looking for other like minded people to train with. We are called Aardvarks after the last plane to be stationed at the Heyford Airbase." "The F-111E 'Aardvark' was transferred to the 20th Tactical Fighter Wing (USAFE) at RAF Upper Heyford in Jan 1971. The aircraft remained at Upper Heyford until it was retired in Dec 1993."
