As very few races are taking place at the moment, I'm creating some web pages entitled "where I was taking photos this time last year". Today, I'm looking at the Andy Reading 10K which takes place from Chesterton which is a village near Bicester.
The organiser's website says "The Andy Reading Memorial 10km Road Race is hosted jointly by Alchester Running Club and Bicester Athletics Club and is held in memory of Andy Reading, a former member of our Club." He was also a member of Bicester AC. That web page also says: "it is with regret the Andy Reading Race Committee has decided to cancel this year’s event (which had been scheduled for 13th December). We hope to be able to rekindle this event for 2021.". Last year's race took place on Sun Dec 8th 2019. The chip timers dbmax produced this video of the start of the 2019 race.
I did the race in 2010, 2009 and 2008. My notes from 2008 say: "The race takes place on a reasonably flat course, with about 4K on a straight old Roman Road called Akeman Street and another 4K round the perimeter road of the airfield at RAF Weston on the Green. If you're not at the front, then, whilst on the airfield, you can see the lead car on the other side of the airfield. When I did this race, it was about 2.5K ahead - it looked a long way away!
Taking place in December, the race has sometimes suffered because of the weather.
The 2017 race got cancelled because of snow.
This is one of a few photos on the
Alchester Running Club's Facebook page.
If not snow, then ice. My notes from the 2010 race say: "In my warm-up I ran the last K of the route which is the bit along Akeman Street. Whilst doing this in my warm-up I frequently had to slow down as my feet were sliding on ice. This was especially the case on the southern side of the road where the bushes were hiding the sun. Although this was the first year that the race was planned to start at 1030, the organisers reverted to the normal start time of 1100 hoping the roads would de-ice. Whilst doing the race, I didn't detect any ice at all. Whether this was because the delay had allowed the sun to melt the ice or whether the trampling of the runners in front of me had melted the ice, I don't know." "A few gliders were taking off and landing which gave us something to look at whilst running round the disused airfield."
By the way, you can click on any of the photos on this web page to see the photo in hi-res.

The above map is taken from www.mapmyrun.com.
The organizer's website says
"the course is a flat 10K on local roads around the village of Chesterton, near Bicester,
and the route takes in RAF Weston on the Green. The race starts and finishes at the Bicester Sports Association H in Chesterton."
It's the section between 4K and 8K where the race goes round the disused airfield.

If you did the Andy Reading 10K in 2019 and want a reminder, then here's a link to all the photos that I took. There's a calculator on that web page that makes it easy to find the photos of a runner given their time and you can find the time from the results web page.
If you want to see the reviews I've done on other races, then here's a link to a web page that includes an index of the reviews of races.
I'm planning for my next review to be of the 2019 Hooky Christmas Canter. I hope to post that on Sunday (Dec 20th 2020).
I maintain a web page for runners that provides a list of races near Oxfordshire and the latest results. As well as a lot of postponed/cancelled races(!), it is now includes several races that plan to abide by the Covid-19 regulations. So go and visit www.oxonraces.com to see what races may take place. And if you use twitter, you may want to follow @oxonraces to become aware of important changes to this web page.
This web page is at www.oxonraces.com/blog/2020-12-13-chesterton-bicester. It was created on Tue Dec 8th 2020 and last updated on Sun Dec 13th 2020.
