2019-20 Oxfordshire XC League - Round 1 - Bicester

As very few races are taking place at the moment, I'm creating some web pages entitled "where I was taking photos this time last year". Today, I'm looking at Round 1 of the 2019-20 Oxfordshire XC League. This took place at Bicester Heritage which is the site of the Bicester airfield. This was a new venue for the League. A report by the organiser says "Despite the heavy rain of the previous day, the underfoot conditions were and firm. Although the venue was flat to look at, the tussocky grass and the nature of the ground itself ensured the courses provided testing conditions for the athletes." It took place on Sun Nov 3rd 2019.

With permission from the organising club (Bicester AC), I was there on the previous day doing a recce of where to take photos. However, I gave up after an hour because of the torrential rain. I felt for those from Bicester AC who were preparing the course out in it for hours as they got soaked and trying to put up posts with bunting in strong winds is a hopeless task! Will the bunting be there the following morning or will it have snapped?

Round 1 of the 2020-21 Oxfordshire XC League was to have taken place last Sunday (Sun Nov 1st 2020). Unfortunately, because of Covid-19 it has had to be cancelled.

The event also included the 2nd race of the 2019-20 British Athletics Cross Challenge and a competition between the RAF and Oxford University. The event took place at Teardrop Lakes in Milton Keynes.
