Today, in my series entitled "where I was taking photos this time last year", I'm looking at the Broadway Tower Charity Hill Run which takes place from Broadway in Worcestershire. It's about 38M from Oxford.
The organiser's Facebook page says "The Broadway Tower Charity Hill Run is a 5M multi-terrain race, mainly off road, taking in the beautiful countryside around Broadway - the route will include stretches of footpaths and side roads, meadows and some farm tracks". "The race raises funds for the Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven." Last year's race took place on Wed Jun 5th 2019 and this year's race was to have taken place today (Wed Jun 3rd 2020). Because of the corona virus, it has had to be cancelled.
By the way, you can click on any of the photos on this web page to see the photo in hi-res.
Wikipedia says "Broadway is a large village within the Cotswolds, situated in the far southeast of Worcestershire and very close to the Gloucestershire border. It is midway between the towns of Evesham and Moreton-in-Marsh. The village lies beneath Fish Hill on the western Cotswold escarpment. The 'broad way' is the wide grass-fringed main street, centred on the Green, which is lined with red chestnut trees and honey-coloured Cotswold limestone buildings, many dating from the 16th century. The wide High Street is lined with a wide variety of shops and cafes, many housed in listed buildings."
The race starts on the NE fringes of Broadway and makes it way using tracks to the High Street.
It reaches this at 1M into the race.
It's only on the High Street for a short while
and it uses the cul-de-sac section of the High Street
meaning it's usually traffic-free
(as you can see in the above photo).
It then climbs through fields.
It is using the Cotswold Way.
It climbs from the High Street which is at about 110m to the Broadway Tower which is at 312m.
This is done in about 1.8K.

Wikipedia
says
"the Tower is a folly on Broadway Hill, the second-highest point of the Cotswolds (after Cleeve Hill).
Its base is 312m above sea level and the tower itself stands 20m high.
It was the brainchild of Capability Brown and was
built for Lady Coventry in 1798-1799.
The tower was built on a beacon hill, where beacons were lit on special occasions.
Lady Coventry wondered whether a beacon on this hill could be seen from her house in Worcester
- about 22M away
- and sponsored the construction of the folly to find out.
Indeed, the beacon could be seen clearly."

Although it's all uphill from the High Street to the Tower,
all that height is lost on the return back down to the High Street.
On the return I usually take photos of the runners in the field that is just before the High Street.
I stand just before the 4M marker.
As the above photo shows, in some years there have been sheep in the field where I wait for the runners!
And I try to capture the runners amidst the sheep! Here's Sam Upton (Witney_Road_Runners) at the race in 2017 - he came second.

If you did the Broadway Tower Charity Hill Run in 2019 and want a reminder, then here's a link to all the photos that I took. There's a calculator on that web page that makes it easy to find the photos of a runner given their time and you can find the time from the results web page.
If you want to see the reviews I've done on other races, then here's a link to a web page that includes an index of the reviews of races.
I'm planning for my next review to be of the 2019 Otmoor Challenge. I hope to post that on Sat Jun 6th 2020.
I maintain a web page for runners that provides a list of races near Oxfordshire and the latest results. Visit www.oxonraces.com and follow @oxonraces
